THAW is a new project from photographer, Timo Lieber, that took place at London's Bonhams in February. Timo contacted Small Back Room directly to create an identity and brochure for his event.

It was a long held passion of aerial photographer Timo Lieber to capture the impact of Arctic warming and translate it into beautiful photographic images, while alerting the wider world to this amazing yet disturbing occurrence in the Arctic.

THAW is more than just a photographic project –it is a collaboration between fine art photography and the scientific work of several leading glaciologists. The images were taken in July 2016, when Timo visited the NERC Research Camp alongside scientists from the Scott Polar Research Institute at the University of Cambridge.

As creative partner, SBR took the themes of Timo’s project and brought them together for the THAW identity. We created a frosted texture to go with a solid and angular THAW logo and incorporated the deep blues of the melted pools for our colour palette which all came together to form the whole look and feel for the THAW exhibition. We also created the THAW catalogue which showcased the striking images.

As a key principal THAW sponsor, Bonhams in New Bond Street hosted a Private View on the evening of 21 February 2017. Opened by Bonhams Chairman Robert Brooks, followed with speeches by Michael Benson of Photo London who spoke of the quality of Timo's work and the matching of art and science. Timo Lieber spoke of his passion for the THAW project and explained the story of how it evolved. The event also featured an ice sculpture with the THAW logo engraved inside.

Press included high-profile coverage in publications such as The Guardian, ITN, The Washington Post, NASA’s Climate Change Blog, as well as social media support from Leonardo DiCaprio, a long-time climate change awareness campaigner.
